The benefits of raising a child to be a lifelong reader are indisputable. Reading introduces pre-K kids to important speech and communication skills, which facilitates healthy social interactions. Reading also promotes the achievement of academic excellence, improvement of logical thinking skills, and longer attention spans. Plus, reading is fun for kids! At Under the Sun Learning Centers, our pre-K educators take great pride in helping kids develop a lifelong love of reading. Children can work at their own paces with the help of our professionals and take part in fun reading-related activities. In addition to the learning center resources available in each classroom, our pre-K curriculum uses the Ready Readers and MCP Plaid Phonics programs.

Ready Readers
Under the Sun Learning Centers uses the literacy program Ready Readers to help beginning readers become more fluent. Ready Readers provides our classrooms with high-quality children's literature from notable authors. These books were written specifically for pre-kindergarten children to enjoy. Along with supplying our books, the Ready Readers program involves discussion questions, activity ideas, and similar enrichment initiatives designed to encourage pre-K children to develop critical thinking skills while enhancing their communication abilities.

MCP Plaid Phonics
MCP Plaid Phonics is a program that involves workbooks that have been used by pre-K educators for years. Phonics is a time-tested method of teaching reading fluency in pre-kindergarten kids. It refers to the relationships between letters and their sounds. For example, the letter grouping "tion" has the sound /shun/. MCP Plaid Phonics introduces children to varying approaches designed to suit every style of learner, including kinesthetic learners. Your child will become a more independent reader as he or she works through the fun puzzles, rhymes, and riddles.
